Let’s Keep Each Other Safe!

Dear eGo Amigo(a)s,

As you know, your health and safety are always our top priority. As such, at eGo CarShare we are closely monitoring development of COVID-19 and receiving guidance from local, national and global health authorities. There are several ways we can help to ensure the wellness and safety of all eGo Members and staff:

  • If you feel any of the common symptoms (including fever, sore throat, cough, or difficulty breathing), please follow the guidelines from the CDC’s website, and DO NOT use an eGo vehicle until you are cleared by health authorities;
  • If you have used an eGo vehicle while experiencing symptoms, please contact us immediately at 303-720-1185;
  • Wash or sanitize your hands each time before entering the vehicle and do the same again when you exit. Wipe down all high use touch points before and after use with wipes provided. We are taking extra measures to ensure all our vehicles have sanitation wipes (typically in the glove box) and or disinfectant;
  • Avoid touching your face completely; if you need to sneeze or cough (hey it’s allergy season!) please do so into your arm/elbow or tissue you will discard, and exit the vehicle first if that’s possible.;

In addition, our staff are being supported through regular communication on appropriate hygiene measures at our workplace and in our vehicles. Our Fleet managers in particular continue to work hard to keep our vehicles clean. Their sanitation efforts have increased at each car they visit, with additional attention to the high-touch places. Specific health and safety measure include:

  • Staff wears masks and gloves
  • Staff temperature checks
  • Contactless payments for all customers
  • Hand sanitizer provided in vehicles
  • Sanitizing vehicles between customers

In addition to our staff support, it’s times like these that amazing members like you pitching in can really make a difference!

As always, we’re here for you. For more information on symptoms and prevention, head to the CDC’s website. With a little effort and attention, we can keep each other safe. Thanks for doing your part!

Sincerely,

~ eGo CarShare Team!

ABOUT

eGo CarShare is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Denver-Boulder metro area. Our local, sustainable, and innovative carshare org is committed to serving and improving our community and the environment. Our mission is to provide and promote alternatives to individual car ownership, thereby reducing the social, economic and environmental impacts of motor vehicle use. Every car in our fleet replaces 9-13 privately owned vehicles. In 2014, eGo CarShare was recognized by Colorado Biz with the Inaugural Green Colorado Award. Visit our website at carshare.org for more information.

Is the world’s largest car share company gone from Denver (and other markets)? Yep! As Streetsblog USA and others report, Car2Go is Car2Gone! Unfortunately this may result in more individual car ownership in the Denver Metro region. In fact we’ve heard from frustrated Car2Go Members looking for alternatives, including purchasing a vehicle.

In response, at eGo CarShare we are committing to ramping up our carshare service in Denver. We are also offering Car2Go members free eGo CarShare Membership by simply using the promo code Car2Gone when they sign up. This is a part of our mission to reduce single occupancy vehicle (SOV) ownership and use in Colorado.

As with previous carshare casualties, Enterprise and Maven (owned by GM), Car2Go is the latest symptom of ginormous companies entering what they think is a lucrative space (shared mobility). But they don’t  actually understand the market and how increasingly competitive it is, especially with shorter trips.

We, on the other hand, are a 21 year young, hyper-local Colorado nonprofit dedicated to reducing SOV ownership & use. In doing so we compliment alternative mobility options like bike sharing and public transit. We also support socially-equitable mobility in lower income areas, while electrifying our fleet in order to amplify environmental benefits. We do so by working with the City, foundations, businesses, nonprofits and other mobility partners in order to meet our mission and not have to focus only on the bottom line.

We’re here for you, Colorado, because we are you!

We all know that traffic congestion is an enormous issue in cities all over the country. The nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide levels in the air increase daily; therefore, our health and the environment are directly impacted.

Thankfully, the world has started to act and today there is the increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), which can be a key action to creating a transition for a sustainable world. According to a recent U.S. News article, by choosing to drive an EV you are helping to reduce harmful air pollution from exhaust emissions and contribute to better air quality.

The market is also jumping on board to support a greener world. Companies like Volvo, Tesla, and Toyota all have electric vehicles and according to The Driven, “By 2030 there will be 21 million electric vehicles on the road globally”. Read more about this on U.S News.

eGo CarShare is very happy to announce Colorado’s first electric vehicle car share in a mixed-income community! The new car is located at Navajo and 10th Street in the Mariposa District of Denver. eGo has been present in the neighborhood since 2013, but we are now proud to take this significant step in sustainable transportation.  On June 1st, we launched the vehicle and charging station during the 5th Annual Youth on Record Block Party.  The location also includes free EV charging access for the general public.

Boulder B Cycle at Naropa

Our very own Fleet Manager (Adam) constantly uses Boulder B Cycle to get across town to check up on our cars and get them to appointments (35+ in Boulder!). This is no small feat, and B Cycle makes it that much easier for Adam. Here is his story:

“As eGo’s fleet manager I am constantly in need of multi-modal transportation to get around Boulder quickly and efficiently. I take on average 3 or 4 B-Cycle trips per day. It took me a few weeks to memorize where all of the stations are and which ones are nearest the cars in our fleet. Without B-Cycle, it would be very inefficient and slow for me to keep up with oil changes, cleanings, logistical swaps, and all the moving parts that go along with keeping the fleet servicing the people of Boulder.

In a pinch, I have tossed B-Cycle bikes in the back of eGo trucks and even once in a Prius, to make appointments on time. It’s awesome how easy it is to get around Boulder without owning a car, relying entirely on bike-sharing, carsharing, and RTD buses. I would love nothing more than to do a marketing photo-shoot for B-Cycle ripping a bike around Valmont Bike Park. Here’s to a greener, smarter, and more multi-modal Boulder! See you on the bike path ;)”

If you are a leader in the greater Denver & Boulder-Metro region who may be interested in helping an amazing nonprofit org grow into the future, we now have open positions on the eGo Carshare Board of Directors. We are at a pivotal time in the organization’s existence as the mobility landscape continues to be more competitively served, and we are looking for leaders to help us meet the opportunities ahead.

Currently, eGo CarShare is looking for leaders with vision and in areas of expertise including:

  • Business Leaders in Bank/Finance, Property Owners, Tech & anyone else with mobility interest
  • Fund Development, Donor Cultivation & Grant Writing
  • Political & Government Leaders
  • Communications, Outreach or Media Relations
  • App/tech Developers

We are open to qualified and enthusiastic leaders with creative ideas for strategic funding initiatives and ways to leverage community partnering opportunities so that we can implement programs which will allow eGo to continue to evolve, while serving our business, residential, nonprofit and academic communities!

 As an eGo CarShare member, you already choose to live a more sustainable urban existence. Yay carsharing! Want another way to be sustainable in Denver by being a food and soil regenerator?!

Check out our friends at Scraps, a company that uses only bikes and trikes – or its eGo business membership if the weather is too dangerous for pedaling – to run its business. And since Scraps is in the composting business, that means it’s not only committed to reducing its carbon footprint on the roads, but also to keeping “waste” out of the landfill and instead turning it into soil-nurturing, food-growing, carbon-capturing compost.

Scraps has been working here in Denver since last summer, and has already collected more than 50,000 pounds of compostable material and pedaled more than 2,000 miles around and around the city! We’re proud to have Scraps as a customer and partner.

If you’re an eGo member and Scraps is in your neighborhood, up your sustainability game and start composting with Scraps! Let them know you’re an eGo member when you join, and they’ll waive your signup fee! Sign up at ScrapsMileHigh.com.

Snowed in car

Snowed in!

Greetings eGo Members!

Having trouble finding our eGo CarShare cars during heavy snowfall? Our Member Support Team is always here to help, but as a small nonprofit with convenient and comprehensive vehicles across Denver and Boulder County, it takes us a while to brush off every one of our cars, trucks and our AWD snow toys!

Here are some tips to help your trip go more smoothly in the event of a snowfall or very cold weather:
  • Allow more time (5-10 mins) in your booking to brush snow off the car, chip ice away, heat up, etc.
  • In every car there is a brush and scraper located in the backseat, or in the trunk
  • Be sure you are familiar with the car type, color, and location before your booking
  • Upon leaving the car, double-check that all lights in the car are off (even one door light left on can drain a winter battery super fast)
  • Take extra care and leave far more breaking distance on icy roads
If snow or low battery issues have caused any inconvenience (it happens in cold/ice!), know that eGo CarShare is committed to being here for you year-round and we’re doing our best!
Be sure to remember these tips for the upcoming cold snap and snowfall, and enjoy our beautiful Colorado Winters!

eGo CarShare & Boulder Chamber partnership

eGo CarShare & Boulder Chamber partnership

eGo CarShare – Colorado’s first and only non-profit carsharing org in Boulder County and Denver – is very proud to announce our new partnership with Boulder Chamber! This includes adding our newest carshare location onsite in the Chamber’s parking lot at Walnut and Folsom!

A business eGo CarShare (www.carshare.org) membership replaces the need of managing an in-house fleet or reimbursing employees for parking, mileage and gas. With business and nonprofit rates as low as $4/hour and $0.33/mile, we are also offering a special $75 in driving credit for Boulder Chamber members. Extremely affordable and convenient, your business can also say goodbye to the rising costs of gas, insurance, maintenance and a parking spot. They’re all on us!

Membership allows access to cars 24 hours a day to our fleet of 50+ fuel efficient and specialty vehicles, for as little as 15 minutes at a time. Just make a booking online, use your personal key fob to unlock the car and return it to the same location when you’re done.

Our fleet of strategically placed vehicles around town, near bus stops and close to B-Cycle stations will allow your employees and member businesses to maximize their transportation options while saving money, mitigating traffic and supporting a cleaner environment. On a yearly basis, each carshare vehicle in service:

  • Replaces approximately 15 personally owned vehicles
  • Reduces an estimated 150,000 vehicle miles travelled (VMT)
  • Averts over 8,000 gallons of gas from being used
  • Prevents over 73 tons of greenhouse gasses from entering the atmosphere
  • Helps our members drive an average of 44% less and save around $6,500 in car expenses
A proud eGo Panda!
